In plain English, Lucia was the daughter of Robert de Thweng, who had died the year. of her birth, 1279, and thereby she had become a ward of the king. Her grandfather, Marmaduke de Thweng, Baron of Kilton, had married Lucia, one of four daughters, co-heiresses of Peter de Brus. Her share of the inheritance comprised Danby Castle, manor, and- forest, besides Lealholm, Wolvedale, Brotton, Skinningrove, land and tenements in Yarm, Great-Moorsham, and other possessions in Cleveland, with manors elsewhere.
