Chinese Wand Chi Kung and Tai Chi Form

Group Leader: Audrey Walker

No previous experience is needed to attend these classes. They are suitable for students of any age and fitness level as they work at their own pace to their own level of ability

There are seventeen Chinese Wand  exercises and they are designed to encourage flexibility and. mobilise the joint of the skeleton together with stretching the muscles.  The exercises  are carried out using a length of bamboo cane or similar material. The exercises themselves encourage the use of muscles and work on the cardiovascular system to improve blood circulation, concentration and self awareness. The exercises should be done without strain and thereby strengthens the muscles gently.

There is no formal health check but students should acquaint the instructor with any' Injuries or illness suffered before the session begins.

The student should wear loose comfortable clothing with light footwear if needed.

The wands are initially supplied by the instructor at each session. but it is a good idea for the student to have their own. A mat for floor exercises is also required however the exercises  can be done standing if need be. All the exercises can be done sitting in a chair if required and variations can be designed for individual needs.

Students  should try to do some of the exercises on a regular  basis once they are confident in the performance.

Tai Chi Form

The system of Tai Chi taught is the traditional Yang style. It requires that students are able to stand for considerable lengths of time and concentrate on physical coordinated  movement. It requires a great  deal of patience and mental effort to learn but the results are well worth it.

The movements are designed to work all parts of the body. To encourage muscular and skeletal movement. The cardiovascular system is also stimulated.

Again as with the above Chinese wand it is essential that the Instructor knowledge of illness and injury. This will affect the level of your practice.

Loose clothing and light footwear is best although bare foot is acceptable depending on condition of the floor being used.

Chinese Wand can be learnt fairly easily whereas Tai Chi requires commitment and time. Give it a go

Both Chinese Wand and Tai Chi complement each other.

This Class is invariably full because the numbers have to be limited.
