The King's Head Local tradition says that Charles I called a Council of War before the Battle of Nasby at the King's Head Inn on the corner of Church Street and King's Road. The present King's Road was the yard of the inn. Further along the road is King's Head Place and there was also a Kind's Head Row, Terrace and Close, showing the prominence of the old inn in the town; a newer premises carries the old name today.
